North of Barsola on TX Hwy 1911 I saw a sign for the Arnold Cemetery and I drove a short distance from the road to the cemetery. The Cemetery sign said that the cemetery was established in 1872. I walked through the cemetery and found most of the markers to be in the Arnold family. I suspect that the old unreadable sandstone markers were from the late 1800s. The Arnold Cemetery appears to be well Read on...
It was a late rise the morning after the rush trip back from Africa but the sleep was really needed. Back at the flat at Hammersmith again, we had a really civilised breakfast of porridge, followed by bacon and eggs. I rang Ruth and made arrangements for Joan and I to drop up to Hatfield in the afternoon to catch up with them again before I flew home. We reached Hatfield by and just relaxed and c Read on...

Kauai is probably just about everyones happy place if you have been here. Many people I know do not venture much beyond the madness of Waki Waki (Waikiki Beach in Honolulu), and the increasingly mad and bustling island of Maui. But Kauai has always been special for us, since our first visit together, over years ago. Why? We met our dear friends, Rey, and Corinne during a round of golf at Princev Read on...

Today I was able to venture further into Denali NP by taking a tour bus. Originally the tour was to be hours but the park road is closed at mile 45 so instead it was 5 hours. The tour buses are converted school buses (same as the free shuttle) and they are able to travel beyond the Savage River stop onto the unpaved portion of the road. If you want to see the park beyond the pavement and do not w Read on...

Though I really enjoy visiting supermarkets in foreign countries, there are benefits to visiting domestic supermarkets as well. But the point is, do not overlook the supermarket for a worthwhile adventure while on the road. Over the years, we have discovered some really interesting gift items and experiences. One of my first visits in a foreign country was in London back in the 70s. I found the Wa Read on...
We had been warned. We had seen it on the weather forecast. Well several actually as, as you do, we checked others having found we didnt like the first one. No use. They were all of one mind, it was going to rain for 48 hours and rain it did. I know there are lots of Spanish people who are saying....oh good, we need rain to fill the reservoirs but I do wish they could have waited until we had enj Read on...
