Our guide tonight was Andrea, we wandered through the narrow streets of Venice with its 15 centuries of history.
As we wandered we listened to the tales about the sinister deeds and tragic ends of the figures who once walked the streets—some of whom are believed to still wander as restless spirits.
In the late 16th century, a nobleman called Loredan fell in love and married the Doges niece. He Read on...
Phetchaburi was always on our list for this trip, and a few days there got us back on schedule just in time to head back to the capital and get ready to leave Thailand! Thanks to the likes of bucketlistblog we had an idea what the town had to offer. Have to say though, we were very impressed and glad we decided to stay for three nights. This is the sort of place that backpackers would have been se Read on...

This post months late, because its about summer, and summer ended here about 3 months ago, but I did really mean to post about our Chilean summer vacation because well, its all been part of this experience of being an expat, but mainly being in a pandemic wherein not everything fundamentally, makes sense, or goes even remotely as expected. This is the Texas State Railroad, Christmas edition on December 7, 2019. This railroad operates year round with full time employees; except in December where it is the Polar Express using temporary employees (except engineers and brakemen) that know little about the railroad. Thank goodness there is a thing called a pause button. Timely to hit it and put to one side for a moment.

The Adventure Mayas minivan by to pick us up at 8:15 to go on our excursions, so room service was scheduled an hour earlier. Room service came even earlier than our alarms and woke us up with another loud buzzer at our doorbell. A family of 8 from Kansas from our hotel as well as another couple from another hotel were going too, so we packed 12 of us into the van and drove towards Tulum. We passed Read on...
An overcast day with better weather than forecast with the odd spitting and a few heavier showers demanding my cape escape its moorings on my rear rack. Quite an uneventful ride through rolling dairy country, although some may say that some of the hills are definitely not rolling. One nice descent was followed by a rumbling sound from my front wheel which was found to be a puncture. Luckily it was Read on...
Another good day although the track was very rocky and rough. These conditions mean you have to be careful with every step as its so easy to roll an ankle. As such its surprising how much more effort goes into such a day. The distance and elevation with previous days but the extra degree of concentration means today was considerably more tiring than previous days.
The landscape is changing here, Read on...
