I was going to make my camp at the pay campground at Canjilon Lakes. I was sad that the large aspen trees were gone so I drove on to find a new camp. I drove East on FS 110 through a nice forest. The road conditions got poor so I had to drive my old truck slower. I drove over a mountain pass called Mogote Ridge; then it was an easy downhill drive. Not far down from the ridge I found a nice large l Read on...
Started out from our motel just after 8am. Fine drizzle had started and temperature in the low 20s this morning so We soon crossed the Mississippi River and were now in the State of Mississippi and as the sign on the bridge said the home of American music. No sign of Mark Twain, Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn on the bridge - so we pressed on. Our track took us onto some narrow sealed roads betwee Read on...
I was reading a book, and came across this rather colorful description of a stinky situation. I am sure each of us has a story that may top this one. But here you go: This is from Tim Moore in his book, The Cyclist Who Went Out in the Cold as he cycled along the old Iron Curtain, in a Russian shopping bicycle with only two speeds. After 1700 km of odorless, aseptic Finland, my nostrils were befoul Read on...
I hope this blog finds you and your loved ones well. I have started, stopped, and restarted this blog more times than I can count. At first I delayed out of normal procrastination habits; then every month since was interrupted, Ive questioned if the timing and message of this post were right. I was holding out for some glorious day when this virus would be gone, this pandemic would be over, and t Read on...
We wake up in an awful hurry. The bombs going off outside the window are shaking the building, and the flashes from the explosions are blinding. Mad Vlads clearly decided to move onto his next target, and hes picked poor old Slovenia. Well thats what it sounded like, but it seems it was just a thunderstorm. Issy says that wasnt just a thunderstorm, it was the loudest brightest thunderstorm shes ev Read on...

Im always thrilled to visit a place for the first time, in particular in my home country of the United States. In May 2022, I spent eight days exploring two areas of Utah: the Salt Lake City region and several national and state parks near Moab. The state has a raw and majestic beauty, but it also offers a cautionary tale about the dangers of unchecked expansion and the reality of climate change. Read on...
We have done our last trip so no alarms today!! I was awake for 8:30 but Claire managed to sleep for about an hour longer. This must be what its like for other people who do ‘normal holidays.??? I just felt lazy to be honest. The rest didnt last long though. We were soon walking up (of course ‘up) to the Holy Trinity cathedral which is the best religious place we have visited here. Lots of cl Read on...
Took a walk around the whole Lake and hiked up to Mala Osojnica (or maybe Ojstrica). Met a lovely Victorian couple and did the walk with them. We all got lost, but made it in the end. Great walk, bit slippery, awesome views. Next stop, rowing a Pletna boat (€20) to the island, well Graham did, Ella tried (we couldve been a while) and then our hero rower was Kirsten. Kirsten wasnt very good at i Read on...
After breakfast this morning, we decided to go see Grand Prismatic. This is Colleens favorite sight to see at Yellowstone, and I think its a as well. For me personally, the most memorable things Ive seen in Yellowstone during past trips were Artist Point, Grand Prismatic, Old Faithful, and the limestone walls in Mammoth. So, I wanted our kids to have the chance to see most of these things as well Read on...
