Writing this blog was actually on my chore list. It was one of those items that you put on your list, mark off most other items and then move this one to the next list only to repeat the cycle. I love traveling and I love writing and I love eating, so this should be a no brainer blog to produce, right? One would think. The reality is I have avoided this blog because it is just too overwhelming. T Read on...
This was the day to walk over Cleeve Common , a high plateau. After the initial climb (1000 feet above sea level, of which the hotel is half way), the walk is gently rolling. At the south edge are the remains of a hill which was use for protection over 2000 years old. Much further on and around is Belas Knap, a burial mound over 4000 years old. Built into the mound were small stone caves for the Read on...
So where in the world are the intrepid travellers ? Not far. We are standing on a patch of scrubby ground on Hassocky Lane . Glenn is leaning against a gate which proudly tells us not to park there as access is needed at all times. It does not look from the state of the rusty chain and lock that anyone has used that gate for some while. I stand at the side of him pacing back and forward . We have Read on...
Left the motel around 8:15 and headed for Walmart to buy an esky. Sandra needed some toiletries, so she went that way and I found the esky. Cute little thing and it keeps the drinks cold. The outside temperature today was 104F (40C). Just a tad schwetty! There was a vision store in there but they couldn‘t fix my glasses but suggested another store around the corner that might. Went to the eye c Read on...
If one corrects a mistake doing the right thing, things better. If one corrects a mistake doing the wrong thing, things wronger. It is better to do the right thing wrong than doing the wrong thing right – Russell Ackhoffs (born 1920, he was a pioneer in the field of operations research, systems thinking and management science). Here we are into month eight of the pandemic, not forgetting it r Read on...
I noted earlier that the folks from my tour of Ireland (Overland Ireland) suggested I move my tour one tour later in the year to avoid the havoc (crowded restaurants, etc.) brought about by The Galway Races Summer Festival. I agreed, but my return to London from the Wales tour late in the day on Friday and a 0830 departure on Sunday for the Ireland tour gave me only Saturday to move my base of ope Read on...
This morning weve got tickets for Torontos iconic gothic revival style mansion, Casa Loma, and then this afternoon we plan to head to the beach. well that was the idea, but we look out the window at grey skies and rain, which might put paid to the bit about the beach. The beach we planned to go to was at Scarborough Bluffs a few kilometres further along the shoreline of Lake Ontario. We saw some Read on...
We woke up and met with Cherry for breakfast, then headed to the bank to exchange some money, and have a wander around town. We checked out the sights of Leon, then came back to gather up our stuff, say goodbye to Cherry, and continue on our journey. We had decided wed do a couple stops on the way to the beach house- at Masaya to see the volcano and market, and at San Juan del Oriente to see pott Read on...
Since getting back from our trip to Ephesus we have been staying busy in Marmaris. There seems to be plenty to keep us going with projects on the boat as well as a few outings into town to shop. Once we went in just to have a relaxing day with nothing specific to do but wander – what a treat! As I think I have mentioned before the Marmaris Yacht Marina where we are currently is not right in the Read on...
Today we head out for a day trip to Antibes. We get up at 7:20, have breakfast then head out. We take the number 2 tram and exit at Parc Phoenix. We follow the signs to the train station St Augustine about six blocks away. The round trip for Mark and I costs 5.80 euros. We get a senior discount which is nice. The train is a regional train but it is as nice as the fast train we took from Paris. We Read on...
