Awoke to find the weather unchanged at around 11 degrees and still very windy. We checked out of the Newport Bay Club & Hotel around 10am but not before Kerry did some research looking for a diner for breakfast / brunch on the route to Boston. She settled on the Pandolphis Mattapoisett Diner and we arrived at 11am. Its one of the older classic diners with the shiny silver tram style design with t Read on...
Dublin is full of history and on the heygo virtual tour today we learnt so much in such a short space of time. We were able to briefly go inside two cathedrals St. Patricks & the oldest Cathedral Christchurch originally 1028 & rebuilt in stone in 1170 with his magnificent floor tiles. We crossed over the River Liffey & walked down one of the oldest streets in Dublin, Fishamble Street and viewed a Read on...
I took the ferry from Vangsnes to Dragsvik apparently via Hella lol. Its direct but you have to get off in Hella and turn around so that youre facing the right way on the boat. Fair. The fjord was gorgeous this morning - 1/3 was in the blazing sun, 1/3 was under a storm cloud and the other 1/3 was sunny but with super low cloud cover. First time on a car ferry here - I love that everything is don Read on...
After a quiet and solid night sleep, we had a slightly slower morning, but were still walking by 9, for another 20km day. After seeing another waterfall, we headed up the steep but brief track to the track along the ridge and followed this along with magnificent views into the valley. We then chose the lower route of the two options (way marked by an old tractor frame) down into the valley and wer Read on...
Il est presque neuf heures ce matin quand on se rveille. Le soleil est dj bien prsent sur Las Vegas. On mange rapidement quelques cookies. Read on...
Today we planned to do many of the touristy things. We started out with a changing of the guards tour. While its definitely an option to just go watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, we did a tour which took us to several different perspectives. First we started at St James Palace. This is the senior royal palace where key events, like the pronouncement of the queens passing, tak Read on...
I forgot to mention yesterday that I did not see a to Saskatchewan sign on the highway. The sign at the Alberta visitor centre was underwhelming but to be fair I was no longer on Highway 1, the Trans Canada Highway that runs coast to coast. The rolls in the landscape got a little bigger once I entered Alberta. Im basically camped in the valley of the last couple road pics. The river is shallow now Read on...
It was explorer and surveyor Thomas Brunner who first identified coal seams on the banks of the Grey River in the late 1840s. By the 1880s Brunner Mine was the largest coal producer in New Zealand. Other industries grew alongside the extensive mine buildings and settlement, which included brickmaking and coke production. They were all serviced by a railway bridge across the Grey River. At the pea Read on...
We awoke to blue skies and sunshine so it was great to be able to get out on deck without the chilly wind we have experienced the past few days. We are Port side so enjoyed the morning sun on the balcony, although I got itchy feet and went off with my camera to discover more locations around the ship. The staff were setting up the pool area and a few people were enjoying the hot tub, others were Read on...
We left around 9 the next morning to head back towards Windhoek. I was a bit relieved to go home and sad to leave this beautiful place. The scenery was nice, though noticeably less nice than the previous days... Our first order of business was to take the Covid test. Again, I was nervous. Was like the 5th in line in our group at the local clinic - ready to get it over but afraid to go first. It w Read on...
