Many years ago, decades in fact, when we were travelling by car in France, the traffic rules there were quite different from today. In particular, cars, even when trundling along at speed on a major road, were expected to give way to vehicles joining from side roads on the right. As a result, when driving there Paul, who essentially does all the driving when we are overseas (except when he breaks Read on...
We were up early .....the bed was as hard as the floor. Neither of us slept well, but we showered and out the door we went. Our Zimmer didnt provide breakfast, we knew that and were off to find a bakery/caf. The folks at the Zimmer told us Um de Ecke (around the corner). Well up the street we found the bakery. We each had a brochen and coffee. Maria, James, Eva and Swen decided weeks ago to meet Read on...

Our train trundled on slowly into London . The information board and the on board system gave out messages from time to time about which station up next ; which station we were stopped out: the end of the line. We arrived at Wembley stadium station and disembarked together with a large group of town supporters all resplendent in red and white . Different shirt tops marked each era for the club . After a decent nights sleep, we both woke refreshed after the long day we experienced yesterday. Breakfast, normally a hot and cold buffet, was waitress service only. Menus were placed at each table and orders taken accordingly. It was basic but adequate. At least with this service, one can exercise a certain amount of portion control. Neither of us had about this new procedure. This morning we d Read on...

We started this morning with a stroll around Melrose. We followed the sign to the swing bridge which was underwhelming. We wandered along the Chicken run/Weaving camels/Farmers freewheeling fun track mountain bike tracks until we reached an open view of Mount Remarkable. At last we managed to take a photo of the mountain with the sun shining on it rather than from behind it. We walked back into Read on...
In our last missive I decried the residual resistance to vaccine uptake in parts of the wealthy west, as well as its hesitant to their juveniles. Even more pertinently we worried about the limited availability and constrained distribution of vaccines within developing countries. Such were likely to see new, potentially more threatening, variants emerge. And sadly so it proved. Most of Africa trai Read on...
This morning we left our hotel at 8:35 and 79 degrees and headed west to meet the Mississippi River. Our target was Vicksburg and our plan was all about the Great River Road. Before we ever got to Vicksburg, we hooked up with the entry point to the road and we followed the signs north. We drove for miles and miles through the Mississippi Delta, the most lush and fertile farmland one might ever see Read on...
