After leaving the South West Coast Path at Clovelly in April, Im back to take up where I left off after a fantastic weekend at the folk festival.
It was dull and damp as I stated walking from my little overnight shelter. I wasnt too worried though as the forecast was for the weather go improve throughout the morning and remain good all week.
It was lovely being back on the path again. The first Read on...
From Culinary Backstreets website: Fall marks the start of the olive picking season throughout Greece. From Thrace to Crete, from Corfu to Lesvos, and even in the suburbs of Athens, landowners lucky enough to have olive trees will start harvesting their fruit. In fact, Greeks universally prefer the oil from their own region if not their own trees and tend to buy it loose, direct from the press rat Read on...
As promised at the end of my last blog entry, here are some pix of the finished patchwork quilt. Danielle and I worked together on it for over four months. It was a long and arduous process with many fits and starts, pauses and changes, ideas and discoveries. When we first talked about down to stay in my rental apartment for six months, part of the agreement was that she would help me with the pro Read on...
We paid a visit to the old Underground Hospital located behind its modern counterpart. When WWII saw the bombing of Darwin and Townsville in 1942 there was a very real threat that Mt Isa could be another target for the Japanese. such an attack, it was quickly decided that an underground hospital should be carved out of a shale hillside. 3 tunnels all linked by a fourth 20mtr long corridor, formin Read on...
Today, four days later than planned, we are finally leaving Costa Rica. The last challenge for my running clubs January Jaunt is a mystery run/walk where opposing teams must guess your location, so I have deliberately avoided mentioned our next destination - Panama City. I can remember learning about the building of the Panama Canal at school (a very long time ago) so am very excited to be visitin Read on...

October 7 is Poodle Day here, with a parade, cocktail party, and off lea Read on...
Another late start on our last day here as, AGAIN, we didnt set alarms. We walked down to Meidan Square to order a Bolt as its a bit of a maze where our guesthouse is.
Who should we see on the square but our taxi driver from the other day. He pretended not to remember us but Claire was straight in there, soon by me. He used the usual excuses then offered to take us somewhere for free, then offer Read on...
As Happy Wanderers, we continue our rotation visiting and staying with our generous and thoughtful children. Thank you, dear children. Fortunately, we didnt stop at having one child (like me) because that one child would have been burnt out by now with our constant presence and would be signing us up for the local nursing home. With all of our doctor visits...maybe that is where we need to be. Noo Read on...
We began the day with an amazing self serve breakfast at Catalyna Atacha, what a delicious spread of culinary treats from Spain! I loved the fuet salami, the fresh bread with ovo and tomato salsa as well as the many varieties of hams and cheeses. The delicious Bocadillos, mini sandwiches with peppers and lettuce, were a surprising treat for breakfast and the creamy fresh yogurt with goji berries, Read on...
