With the Australian Government banning International travel and States closing their borders, due to Covid 19, it has been a difficult year, wishing I could get out and about again on the trails. I decided therefore to do some blogs on local tracks which I use, around my home base in Cairns. These are tracks and trails which I train on, but if you are ever in Far North Queensland, would be good t Read on...
Guess what?? When we woke up this morning it was still raining. We called for a late check out and played Farkle until lunch because it was raining. We watched the news and packed for the airport. While we packed, we realized we had some leftover food, water, and supplies. Earlier we had noticed that there were some homeless people living nearby in a park, so we stopped by and gave what we had to Read on...
From the 15th century, internal fights within the state resulted in its loss of influence in Dalmatia, and Zadar, together with much of the surrounding mainland and islands, were sold to Venice but Zadar remained the capital of Dalmatia under Venice. In the 16th century, Turkey invaded inland Dalmatia, Zadar retreated and became the largest in the Venetian Republic but Plague ravaged the city. Read on...

One thing we find a bit fascinating is that once you go about two hours by car north or northwest from Stockholm the shop signs start to change in style. The best way we can describe them is that the shop signs look antique. Similar signs further south in Sweden are more likely to look more modern. It seems to be a north of Stockholm thing. Or possibly, it is more of rural thing? We like these si Read on...
We have a couple of things to see near to our campsite. The first is a small waterfall with a pool below that is safe to swim in. Its just across the road to our camp site. If only I had realised this yesterday Id have been in there! Not only did last nights camp site have no showers, but it had no hot water either. Apparently we could have gone to the swimming pool in town to get a showerbut as Read on...
I mentioned in my last blog post how Emerald was in the midst of the largest sapphire gemfields in the world, hence our next place to visit was nearby Rubyvale. After checking in to the caravan park, we headed out to the Heritage Underground Sapphire Mine for a tour, which was very interesting. We booked a Tag Along Sapphire Fossicking Tour for the next day, and followed an old prospector out to Read on...
Quite a long drive today and most of the way on the motorway. Seemed to be right across Switzerland, East to West but Switzerland is a very funny shape with lots of bits sticking out in all directions if you look at it on the map. It rained all night exactly as forecast and sure enough when we looked out at the mountains to the East, those we had down from, there was snow showing on some of the p Read on...
Last day of our Malaria prophylaxis. Since our arrival we diligently were taking one tablet of Malanil a day. The North East of South Africa is Malaria country especially in the rainy season and it is certainly prudent to take precautions. Since Rorkes Drift we have exited the Malaria territory, needed however to continue the treatment for another 7 days. Malaria is a infectious disease that affe Read on...
Starting off through the colourful town of Westport a climb was encountered before heading for Castlebar the country way and then an excellent cycle path into town alongside the main road. A bit early for us but we decided to have a coffee and a tiny piece of cake, just in case. As we got onto the Turlough Greenway we met towards us on his borrowed with a big smile on his face. The Greenway has a Read on...
