Day 295 of Lockdown. It is the first month of the year and it is me Gabby the motorhome . They have deserted me almost a month ago. They drove me up the potholed road on the 18th December . The driver has been up twice to check me over and that is it . Left alone in the cold . Unloved. Unwanted . Unused . I feel dumped. I am muddy . That is from the mud on the road when they brought me to the wall Read on...
Gozos not that big, about five kilometres from one side to the other, so we set off on a drive, figuring that if we keep going for long enough were sure to find something interesting. We dont have to wait too long. The set of salt pans a kilometre or so west of Marsalforn is the most extensive collection weve seen in Malta so far, all laid out in neat geometric patterns on the flat rocks a metre o Read on...
Not much to report today. Did a bit of bike maintenance a little bit of shopping then lots of relaxing and washing. At 6pm we Ubered back downtown and tried a few different bars with different bands. Found one with a really good band with an ultra talented lead singer. (Morgan Alexander) He could sing everything from Rap to country and he was by a fantastic band. Especially clever was the fiddler/ Read on...
We get to board a shuttle that will take us to the train station in Ravenna. There are a lot of cruise passengers who take the trains rather than fly. Directions were fairly easy, one main street to the main square all others laid out on a square grid. We found a caf and got 2 double cappuccinos to get our energy level up. Also got 2 stuffed croissants. Streets were deserted which was a nice ch Read on...
The day Originally we would pack our bags, give back the rent a car at Cape Town airport, fly to Joburg and connect to Zurich. The departure from Galway was in a little sun but quickly went into overcast skies and then drizzle. Rain jackets on and then capes (only the professional riders may I add). However, the professionalism went out of the window after lunch. The lunch was had at the ??? Cafe in pouring rain which only diminished slightly as we set off again. Delighted to find that Smart Car battery had fully recharged overnight so drove it back into position behind the motorhome and hooked them back together with the Aframe. Bob has worked out a solution to the Smart Car deciding to secretly switch and leave its brake lights on if we leave it hooked up when we stop. He has to stop the motorhome and then move it forward just a couple of inches. This st Read on...
Days 430 to 434. Week 20 the year . A whole shedload of days disappeared and no sign of life on the horizon as things change day on day. The weather has been awful . Rain . Heavy most of the time swelling the river Dee up by over a metre. The river looks lovely when it is fast flowing but nature is cruel . The Sandpipers chicks have been washed away by the sheer force of the water. The Kingfishers Read on...
