During the night I woke to what I thought was the sound of rain. It was hard to tell with the air conditioner running, but I thought it sounded different from the sound of a/c alone. Sure enough, this morning we were greeted with wet decks when we ventured out of our stateroom. There has been the threat of rain quite a few times during the week, but we have been so lucky that we have had no rain w Read on...
At just about every Caravan Park we stayed at, people we encountered asked Have you been to Cobbold Gorge? We booked our Caravan Park in Georgetown and the tour of the gorge at least two weeks ahead, which was just as well, as many people not only missed out on the gorge, they also encountered No Vacancy signs at the local Caravan Parks. Thus, it was with much anticipation that we drove the ninet Read on...
After 66 Blog entries, with over 65000 words and 2000 pictures, we our sabbatical or you can call it extended honeymoon travel blog. 11 months ago we packed our bags, quit our jobs and headed into an adventure which turned out much less predictable than originally envisaged. Despite all sorts of Covid related travel restrictions, limitations to places we wanted to visit (museums and concerts were Read on...
Wednesday Eric and I took off on Air France with a brief stop in Paris on our way to Florence, Italy. Five minutes into the drive to the airport, I got an alert on my phone saying our flight was delayed 4 hours, so we went back home. We were going to miss the second leg of our trip, so I nervously waited for everything to be rearranged and rebooked, and fortunately it was all smoothed out in time. Read on...
Most who read this have probably never heard of the town Trollhttan. It is a medium sized city, population of about 60,000, in the southwest of Sweden. Trollhttan may not be famous or spectacular. But there are several things there that we found interesting and thats why we went there this summer. One of the things that draw us there was actually a dairy store that doesnt even exist anymore. Well Read on...
We had a late breakfast. Breakfast is open until 11 and the buffet was constantly being replenished. As expected a wide variety of fresh produce, cheeses, baked goods, omelettes or juices, coffee, etc were available. We sat outside and ordered coffee. Then we browsed the buffet and found lots to choose. The salads and some of the dairy products are produced on the farm here or by other local est Read on...
Susan and I thought Solomons, Maryland, would be a pleasant place for another circumscribed day trip. I had head of it, but not visited. Certainly easy to reach from home, only about 1 1/2 hours away via the Capital Beltway and Maryland 4. Solomons is at the tip of a peninsula where the Patuxent River flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Fishing, especially crabbing, had been the industry in Solomons fo Read on...
Today we finally make the long trip home... well thats assuming our beloved Qantas doesnt cancel on us at the last minute again. We decide it would probably be a good idea to make the most of our last few hours of freedom given what awaits us in Melbourne - locked down except to get food, or to exercise for no more than two hours a day, all within five kilometres of home, and a curfew. Im not too Read on...
Short run today from Larne to Belfast. Cycled past the roundabout in Larne with a large golden crown as a centrepiece. A very sharp and not so short hill out of Glynn made us breath a bit heavily, and someone behind me sounding as if it was their very last breath ever. A bit of undulation in cow country lead us to a very long descent to the A2 at Eden by the Kilroot power station. A brew was taken Read on...
One of our group was less fortunate as he became unwell last night and spent today being looked after by the medics. The good news is that he is on the mend and in good spirits. Most of us did different things today but some went to the Dark Hedges near Ballymoney, which some of you may know is an avenue of 250 year old Beech trees. These trees form a canopy over the road and it is where some fil Read on...
