You can just imagine that with the vast amount of air travel I have done, that I have seen some really strange behavior. Maybe bizarre would be a better term. Here they are in no particular order. Stinky First Class Yes, I was seated in First Class on a flight to Denver, but I actually had to ask the Flight Attendant if I could move back to Coach. Why? It stunk so bad, I could hardly breathe. On our way to this campground Nate stopped off at a few parts stores to see what the stock was for 16 spark plugs since the closest part store to the campground was 30 minutes. Of course, none of them in the area had 16 spark plugs in stock so we ordered them. Due to the distance from the campground, we decided it would be best to change them by the auto store just in case something went wrong. Su Read on...
Tropical Palms is showing an exciting change everyday. As the leaves change color and tumble to the ground up North, the sun shines brighter down here in the South each time another friend arrives on scene for their winter respite. The flight of the snowbirds has begun. The count is going up daily. More and more of our friends will land safely here in their sanctuaries as the days grow shorter. I Read on...
Read on...
The mediaeval town of bidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. Just 70kms from Lisbon. Our guide Igor grew up in the area & was very passionate to show us this ancient town despite the rain pouring down. Located on high ground near the Atlantic coast bidos has had a strategic importance & had already been settled prior to the Romans arrival in the Iberian Peninsula. Read on...
Many of you ask how I travel, mostly solo these days. Sheri and Mike seem to mastered the couch potato movement in all of its pandemic glory. But for me, I would rather go, like Eddie Aikau, only I translate it to Gerry would go. Many of you ask about how I go about making these trips. Some are set in stone before I go, some are done on the fly when visiting new and unknown places. And some with o Read on...
Taking a reasonably early start we actually back tracked towards Reykjavk for the first couple of hours. As seen in yesterdays blog the view from atop Icelands most southerly point was and we didnt even try for an interesting beach just before Vik either. We arrived at Reynisfjara Beach around 08.15 to find its car park almost full. As we walked across to the beach it became apparent that this w Read on...
Light driving for my first day - I wanted to get a feel for the car, the roads and all that. (Also, let me weep at the gas prices around $3.10 a litre) Its pretty slow goings here - even on the highway its usually only 80km, few small sections at 90km. But of course a lot of the roads are curvy with the scenery which slows things down. All good, all part of the experience ๐Ÿ˜Š The water was on th Read on...
Storforsen, or the Great Rapid, is not only the largest rapid in Sweden. It would rank pretty high on a list of the greatest rapids in Europe as well. Swedens largest rapid, Swedens largest ghost town, the worlds highest wooden house and the worlds largest cheese slicer Something we learnt this summer while travelling in northern Sweden is that although there are plenty of rivers in this country Read on...
