Von D. Johnson State Park, (previously called John U Loyd state park). Wild beaches, that stretches for a few kilometers. Nice place to look for shells. I actually found a big conch shell there at low tide. Many joggers actually go there and pick up shells as well, (to sell in stores???). There are places for boat access. Near of this, theres a dock where I fished and caught many small fishes. S Read on...
I really enjoyed staying for 3 nights in Pisa, and after all the social life back in the hostel over Christmas and New Year, but also travel restrictions, it was great to get away from the city. It was also nice and necessary too to escape from my routine or what had a or at best, a very loose routine with strong emotions regularly sending me off track, resulting from everyday interactions from m Read on...
We headed out for a long day. We began with an hour drive to Garden of the Gods in Illinois coined the Grand Canyon of Illinois. We spent half the day exploring the observation trail. The trail is made of natural sandstone, has many high cliffs, and opportunities for photo. Nate and Daisy really enjoyed climbing over and under the large stones. I would suggest wearing bug spray and sunscreen. Afte Read on...
This shirt happened to be on top of the pile. It gave me boost in my motivation for the day. A solemn reminder of selfless sacrifice, and the cost of keeping us free and safe. I was planning for an afternoon update for yesterday, but I got behind and had a nice work telecon I had to attend right after dinner. Technology is pretty amazing when it works. Dont really like because people End up talk Read on...
After visiting countries around the world, not much can cause culture shock to me. But the experts say to be prepared when visiting Croatia. Croatia is a blend of at least four distinct cultures, with the Illyrian movement the most significant. Croatia is the origin of the cravat, or the precursor to what we know today as the modern necktie, though few wear them anymore. The first order of busines Read on...
Today we drive to Arles 56 minutes by car from Avignon. Arles was once a Roman city and the old town has narrow streets and is know as a place Vincent Van Gogh lived and worked. We park near a large outdoor market. Mark buys a hat and I buy some handmade soap. We buy a museum pass and visit the Les Arenes (colosseum). The colosseum holds 12,000 spectators. We are not able to enter the colosseum be Read on...

Another early morning virtual trip but this was one I didnt want to miss, a hike through the wilderness with our virtual guide Matt. As a child he would roam the area overlooking Barranco Valley, but did not say the exact location as he didnt want it to known and the area be ruined with visitors. Termites, spiders, lizards, mosquitoes all added to the atmosphere but I was glad I was sitting in t Read on...
I cant put off writing this travel blog any longer. And I resent writing it now – as everyone who had fantastic travel plans and had to cancel them resents the way covid has changed the world. Though I should consider myself fortunate that covid has affected only my travel plans. I had a week in Nepal in November 2019. I went from meeting to meeting not leaving Kathmandu to establish collaborat Read on...
