Day 76 - Dear Globecar , I hope you dont mind me writing to you . I read last night that a couple wrote to Laika and they gave them a free Laika motorhome to use for a year . Well Covid 19 is wearing us down and we need something to cheer us up. We have Gabby already. We are seasoned motorhomers . That is if you call 8 years of travelling in our old van and now your wonderful Globecar then we are Read on...
Definitely not one of my favorite cities, Paris is nonetheless in the hearts and minds of many of you. Perhaps my reluctance to embrace this city started in the 70s, when France and Paris specifically, were very due to the deGaulle years. Yes, it has infinitely better over the years, though I find a kindler, gentler France when I head out to the countryside. Places like Loire, Bordeaux, and Champ Read on...
On the last beautifully warm day of summer, a good number of C Hikers from the Skrastins club gathered on the eastern edge of Nose Hill Park. Ann led us round the gentler slope of the park, avoiding the unnecessarily aggressive stairs to the top. Grasses waved golden heads around the Scotch Thistles, which were fuzzily going to seed, as so many plants were at this time in the season. Most attracti Read on...
I may be slightly biased because thats the island we called home for 13 months, but I think Kyushu is my favourite of Japans main islands. It doesnt have the globally famous sights that from around the world to visit. There is no town as rich in temples, shrines and palaces as Kyoto, there is no mountain as as Fuji, and there is no city as big, as modern and as vibrant as Tokyo. However, the few Read on...
It should only take us a couple of hours driving to make it to Invercargill and on the map it looks about as direct as any of the drives so far on the Grand Tour. It was a bit sad to be moving on from such and well appointed apartment but the adventure on Stewart Island beckons. One would think there was no other highway to take us down to Invercargill but Highway 6 which we have been on since N Read on...
I decided to get up for another early start for some sunrise photography in There was the huge Damien Hirst Verity sculpture. as in that people either love it or hate it. There was lots of apparent symbolism - standing on a pile of books, scales of justice, held behind her back, pointing a sword in the air and being pregnant. Typical Damien Hurst, if you look back at her from the sea wall, all t Read on...
Our lazy days in the quiet fishing town of Moulay Bousselham to an end. There wasnt a lot to do there (they are known for a big lagoon that has pink flamingos, which we visited by boat, and found underwhelming), but the beach is lovely, stretching on and on, perfect for walks. The town is set up high, with a sand dune running down to the beach, and several long sets of steps to access it (112 step Read on...
Today is a big day. 100kms from Shepp to Wang. The weather forecast is for a max of 18 and has favourable westerly winds up to 30km/h blowing all day which is the best possible conditions we could hope for. What could have been a slog just became a whole lot easier. There was also a prediction of up to 2mm of rain but were hoping we can outrun it. We had planned for an early start and were up at 6 Read on...
Call me travel crasher: not only I joining three friends on a their supposed to be in Bali, but I diverted their plans too! Thankfully, they agreed to the idea of going to Nusa Penida Island, South East of Bali. Nusa Penida is known among divers to spot Mola Mola or Sun Fish, which appeared usually in August, but its current tends to be strong. A few cruise offers day trip to Nusa Penida and its Read on...
