Greetings from London! Im writing as I have just returned from a short trip to nearby Ireland, or Eire, or the Republic of Ireland, and plan to write three blog entries for my three full days on this beautiful green island. This is my first one. I am majorly excited about this trip, and have been for some time now. A few years ago, I joined the Travelers Century Club, a club for travellers who ha Read on...
What is it about being home that makes you want to go away again? No sooner you settle down and think you dont want to travel again you change your mind . The merry go round of emotions of being home, wanting to go away and see other things than your own back yard begin again . It should have been a week of doing something . But the weather had snookered that one well and truly. It seemed to rain Read on...
The Jawoyn people, who historically inhabit the Stone Country around Katherine in the Northern Territory, believe that a rainbow serpent named Borong carved a great gorge through the heart of their land. Then from the west came a creature named Nabilil, who travelled through the gorge before camping high up on the plateau above. While Nabilil was sleeping, Walarrk the Cave Bat speared him, and in Read on...
The morning started out overcast and cool. We both slept in a bit, and then got a slow start to the day, doing some reading. it looked like the weather was going to clear, so we took a walk to the beach.
The beach is around a 20 min walk away. As the weather wasnt ideal, we had it to ourselves at first. Lots of big homes along it.
Before long, we were joined by one dog, who was very friendly. S Read on...
After bearing witness to monks collecting alms from devotees (and tourists) in the old city centre of Luang Prabang, we made our way back to Hotel Legend in darkness to finalise our packs and prepare for a gruelling seven hour road trip to Vang Vieng. We settled in the hotels dining area around 7am, where I enjoyed a reasonably simple breakfast of muesli, omelette, tea, toast and jam, along with Read on...

Do not recall our destination, but do know the GPS led us down this road (really just a trail). Ostensively, this is a two lane road, but our car barely fit. Guess the speed limit? is 60 mph. Seriously England. Well, we were certainly pleased to exit the few we traversed. As a warning to our Doozer who is intending to drive across Ireland. Driving here, and we would imagine worse in Ireland, is n Read on...
Were having a bit of trouble getting the GPS on our trusty hire car to work so we decide instead to follow our noses thinking that we cant go too far wrong if we just hug the coast. Road signs are handy too. Slovenian must be a very efficient language; its spelling of Trieste is Trst, yep, you just leave out all the vowels. Im glad our beloved Emma isnt Slovenian. Maybe following our noses wasnt s Read on...
We were awoken at 5:30 this morning by an elephant shaking the tree right in front of our tent - what a cool way to wake up! We lounged in bed for a bit, then later enjoyed breakfast (we both had a very nice breakfast plate with fried potatoes, mushrooms, and two small very light pancakes - quite thin, and very tasty) along with fresh fruit. Susan had sausage and bacon with hers. We packed up and Read on...
Last December, 2019, I had to push the issue to get a free map of the Texas State Railroad at the Palestine RR depot. Then I asked the location of the North Pole (Texas); and they answered that the North Pole location was a carefully guarded secret. I took that as a challenge for me!
From Rusk, Texas I drove West on US Hwy 84 to the Neches River leaving Cherokee County into Anderson County. I too Read on...
