Started the day on time, but it was still hard to get up. Breakfast is included in our room rate. Normally that means a simple continental and maybe some scrambled eggs and sausage. Here it meant a waffle bar, omelet bar, a hot bar with everything to make your own Full Irish (same thing as a full English) and many other items. Just kept it simple and had some eggs, sausage and toast. Jerry added y Read on...
We had a bit of a scare as we tried to fly to the Maldives. When we got to the airport, we found out that there is a difference between the COVID Antigen test and the COVID PCR test and we had gotten the wrong one. So first we went to a place in the airport that offered both and got the right one but it would take 24 hours to get the results back. Since Lyon was such a small airport, there was no Read on...
We had planned to drive around the Ring of Kerry today, before heading to our next stop about 2 hours drive away. Im delighted to say though, that following a from Man with Donkey yesterday as well as one or two other people in Dingle, we changed our plan and did the Slea Head Drive instead. Slea Head is a promontory in the westernmost part of the Dingle Peninsula. National Geographic magazine onc Read on...
I buried my head in some online courses and podcasts on the way here, as until you get close to the Netherlands , its all pretty much the same as what weve seen in France. The drive took 4 hours, including a toilet/ snacks break at a Service Station. The system with the toilets is practical. You pay 80 cents at a turnstile , receive a receipt and the green light, and when you return to the shop, y Read on...
One of our missions for today was to try and actually find the French Market (see A Constant Race Against The Rain), but first we had booked to go for a Mississippi cruise on Natchez Steamboat. The boat was actually called The City of New Orleans, so Im not sure what has happened there? Also I didnt see a lot of steam, not that it matters, but our Steamboat Natchez cruise was on the diesel ship Ci Read on...
North of Barsola on TX Hwy 1911 I saw a sign for the Arnold Cemetery and I drove a short distance from the road to the cemetery. The Cemetery sign said that the cemetery was established in 1872. I walked through the cemetery and found most of the markers to be in the Arnold family. I suspect that the old unreadable sandstone markers were from the late 1800s. The Arnold Cemetery appears to be well Read on...
We besloten de auto ach Read on...
Our last few days in Saudi Arabia continues to delight and amaze. There seems to be no end to the variety of things to see and do. But then again, were just giddy tourists drinking in what this country has to offer. Its not that we are easily amused, we just never tire of taking in our surroundings and learning more about this desert nation. The western tourists will definitely enjoy their time he Read on...
It seems that when most people travel to Japan, or even just think of Japan, it is the sights on Honshu that appeal the most: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hakone, etc. One of my aims of this little Japanese blog series is to get people to look beyond Honshu as the other islands of Japan are fantastic. However, after writing this blog and looking again at my photos, Ive why Honshu is rightly very popu Read on...
