Have you ever visited one of the oldest and driest deserts in the world, the Atacama in Chile? Well, on the long drive through the Thin Country, we spent a few days in the Atacama before heading south. They say some parts of the desert have not seen rain for over a hundred years. As I recall, Mr. Mike and I were there during the early spring. The nearest town, San Pedro was a cold and windy fronti Read on...
Another good day in Ireland with untypical weather I believe. The first ferry at Rathmullen was a treat to most people and was easy to ride to. The last time we did this tour we took some minor roads only to find that they were very steep and torture to some, so this time we took the easier route which actually gave us a better view of the coastline. Luckily there was a coffee kiosk at the ferry t Read on...
Kapellebrcke (Chapel Bridge) across the Reuss River, Lucerne. The angular wooden bridge was built in 1333. Rebuilt in 1994. DSC_0253 Our United Airlines flight from Washington Dulles arrived in Zurich right on time at 8:00 a.m. My first visit to Switzerland! We met the Viking representative in baggage claim, who directed us to our transportation to Lucerne. The bus ride took about an hour. It was Read on...
Yesterday we started our tour of the upper half of the Irish coastline on a 1100km journey. Miraculously the sun was shining after a week of mixed weather (that is another way of saying we had quite a bit of rain). Panic at the car park where the Flowbird app would not work. Eventually paid by machine and panic over. Went to nearby cafe for lunch where the food was good but a bit chaotic. Frank or Read on...
We had a bit of a scare as we tried to fly to the Maldives. When we got to the airport, we found out that there is a difference between the COVID Antigen test and the COVID PCR test and we had gotten the wrong one. So first we went to a place in the airport that offered both and got the right one but it would take 24 hours to get the results back. Since Lyon was such a small airport, there was no Read on...
Yes, because its over for the morning. You can tell its going to be a tough day when after running and jumprope, you need to wring out your socks and creat a huge pool of sweat. Two and a half days, 5 training sessions to go. Had to remember that when I woke up this morning because I was sore everywhere. Knee is a little sore, and a cramp in left thigh, probably from sparring yesterday. Really wa Read on...
The storminess of the day held off long enough to give us a picturesque walk along the Bow River and into the Inglewood district. We met at Pearce Estate Park and immediately headed down to the Bow River. The delightful smell and sound of crunched leaves us through the wooded part of the path. The clear blue river was calm enough to act as a mirror for the trees and high rises in the distance. Br Read on...
Lazy Acre Plantation, about 20 minutes south of Townsville, is a working mango farm and our camping area for the next 3 nights. Unfortunately it is not mango season so we were not able to buy fresh fruit, but we did purchase from our host a couple packs of very sweet tasting dried mango cheeks as well as some freshly laid eggs. It appears that the front orchard of the farm has been let go a little Read on...
Up early again for an 8am breakfast (its nice being able to have a guilt free full English - apparently we actually need the calories!!). Ellis still feeling nervous about having to cover the furthest distance so far - over 20 miles in a single day. Noisy start with the first bridge over the train line and then the second bridge over the M6. But soon managed to put those behind us within a few mi Read on...
The majestic royal palace of the Stewarts at Linlithgow lies roofless and ruined but today we were able to virtually learn more about this historic building. It was begun by James I in 1424, rising like a phoenix from the flames following a fire that devastated its predecessor. It became a truly elegant ‘pleasure palace, and a for the royal family along the busy road linking Edinburgh Castle a Read on...
