We left Chipiona, intending to take a ferry from Jerez de la Frontera to Cadiz, to visit my niece Salome. When we arrived at the ferry port, we found out they didnt have any ferries running today. So, Antonio decided wed take a train instead. After a short ride across town, we bought four tickets to Cadiz, and away we went. A short time later, we pulled into one of the stations in Cadiz. Wed been Read on...

Some how my normal body alarm still worked in a different time zone. Despite the late into the night honking and cheering as a result of the Denmark soccer game win, I was wide awake at 7am. It took Alex about another hour to stir so I did some online research for what we would do today.
Once Alex was up and we both were showered, we headed down to the lobby for a pleasant breakfast. The hotel ha Read on...
We could have easily slept in longer today but the alarm is sounding and we want to beat the heat. It is certainly much hotter here than in the mountains! We are off to Cadiz for the day. Our host has a route via the train and boat.

I decided to spend my last full day in UAE visiting Abu Dhabi. It is about a 1.5 hour drive from Dubai. The roads were great and the traffic was pretty light. Abu Dhabi is the political capital and makes up 87% of the land area of UAE. Their population is 2.2 million. No surprise that oil is over 50% of their GDP followed by construction.
Our first stop was the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The mosqu Read on...

We had a wonderful visit with Carlos, Begonia and their daughter Camilla in Cervantes. They gave us a memorable concert with Carlos playing the hurdy gurdy instrument, singing a traditional Galician song in his workshop. ( I posted a video on Facebook. In the video, I see such love and joy as they sing.)
Then they drove us up to the top of a nearby hill for a beautiful sunset. How I love those tr Read on...
In 1975 I began working as an English teacher at Old Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge, West Midlands. I was a real ale fanatic in those days. On my very first evening in Stourbridge, armed with the 1975 Good Beer Guide and a map, I visited two of the listed pubs: The Royal Exchange in Enville Street and The Waterloo in Wollaston. The beers I sampled that evening, Bathams and Simpkiss, were Read on...
I visited this shop on 30th May and found a number of highly valuable stamps, stamp albums and coins. Shop staff were wearing formal clothes.
As instructed by London Literary Walking guide, I started the course from Embankment station. I walked through small alleyways, gone past Embankment Gardens, the building where Samuel Pepsy used to live and the building has been used for Royal Society of Ar Read on...
