Sidi Bou Said is a small town near Tunis. Its claim to fame is that many of the houses in town are painted in white and blue, making it unusually picturesque.
The last couple of days of this journey I visited some places in and near Tunis. But before I start writing about what I saw and did then I will write about two things that happened in Tunisia that were not so fun.
In 2002 Tunisia was a ve Read on...
Walking has a bit of a bore. It was fine when I started walking around our Derbyshire village home as it was a novelty. I remember enjoying walking as a change to swimming . Investigating the village I had lived in and never entirely walked around . Cul de sacs, long lanes, the ponds, the lakes and the countryside . There were places I had never ventured down and I remember apart from my aching fe Read on...
I had an excuse today to get in the car and go into town to pick up something other than groceries . I needed to pick up some pipe fittings and screws and this would give me the opportunity to visit the town I had not walked around for some years. I told myself my trip was essential .
I wondered what sort of surprises it would present me with . I wondered if I would be disapppinted in what I saw Read on...
Into our stride now: walk to a mountain, up one end, across the top (or two), and down the other end. Once again the views were stunning, and again the bad weather didnt materialize, although it was worse than yesterday – no sun, but a few very short showers.
The ascent today was very gradual on slow, grassy paths. Eventually, however, every up is telling. I had to take more and more breaks as Read on...
It is so good to be back out in the world..! Im going to get all feels about that at some point on this trip, but right now Im too tired. Covid got me at the start of July and I was very nervous about how Id feel and of course that Id test negative before leaving (which I did, right down to the wire!) Pearson lived up to the current horror stories - it was indeed a gong show, particularly the secu Read on...
This was a rude awakening to me, but makes sense. From Karen at Winespeed: Amount (in U.S.$) that a restaurant dishs price rises ($0.18) for every increase of one letter in the average length of words describing that dish. Now that restaurants are cautiously reopening, you can check it out for yourself. According to Dan Jurafsky, author of the James Beard book award finalist The Language of Food, Read on...
According to the World Tourist Organization (UNWTO), international tourist arrivals fell by 72 percent between Jan. and Oct. of 2020, but things are slowly but surely picking back up to where it was before the pandemic. Sunday: The weather was great- 75*, sunny slight humidity and slight breeze. Copper and I drove out to Cheney lake which came highly to me from a local. It was gorgeous but there wasnt much of a trail- more just walking on the road through campsites which were mostly empty on a Sunday afternoon. Also a short boardwalk over the marshy part of the lake. Unfortunately a lot of the lake edges are mars Read on...
Greetings! I thought Id write a blog entry about a lovely day trip I did from London. I had not long arrived home after an amazing trip to New England USA, when my travel feet continued to itch and I was ready to do a bit more exploring again. This time I planned a little trip Id been thinking about for a while now, ever since I watched the film Pocahontas when it came out in the 1990s really, but Read on...
Mossman was our next stop, and it was an ideal base from which to explore the Daintree Coast, including having a good range of shops and services. We managed to secure a powered site in the Mossman Shire Council Caravan Park, which was conveniently located adjacent to the Council Swimming Pool, for which caravan park guests had free and unlimited access. I took the opportunity to do laps on severa Read on...
