First stop for today is Gantheaume Point, which is near the southern end of the peninsula that Broome sits on. Theres a lighthouse here, but it looks more like someones plonked a large lantern on a water tank stand than the sort of lighthouses were used to seeing. The red rock formations are spectacular. There are supposed to be dinosaur footprints here, but were struggling to spot them. Maybe the Read on...
As promised, although I dont think I actually did... but here are my favorite Maine State Parks and Historical Sites. I think Im going to try and rank them... we shall see.
This may have gotten on the list because it was the final stamp we needed. Not many people are going camping up in Northern Maine, with that being said, it makes for a relaxing and quiet destination.

We had to cancel trips to Key West and Chautauqua because of the pandemic and we were going stir crazy. So we decided that a road trip was in order and could be done safely. We hadnt seen my son who lives in Denver in a while so that became our destination from Houston. There were many sites along the way that Ive been wanting to go to so became my plan for an itinerary.

The weather forecast had had warnings for the past 2 days and overnight the rain arrived in Lake Tekapo although it wasnt loud enough on the roof of our to wake us.
However, as daylight increased and the mountain and lake scenery that had been there yesterday didnt reappear it seemed clear that the rain was going to be with us for a good part of the day.
And so it turned out and finally we had a Read on...
We were up and on our way soon after 6am. Once we got out of the town, we drove sooo many miles without seeing a single place to stop for coffee. Finally, we spotted the Silver Lake Mercantile. The place was so and the owners were quite friendly. The lady had a lot of unusual decorations outside, reminding of my wife. We grabbed our coffees and continued down the numerous small roads that would ev Read on...
first four with Daniel and what a delightful tour it was starting with a huge number of Canada Geese and Mallards all searching for food in the snow covered grass. Dufferin Islands is a quiet and secluded area not far from Horseshoe Falls and contains several small islands connected by bridges and footpaths. These islands are teeming with life
As we walked along the roadway we heard how the area Read on...
We set off to Cycle Journeys this morning to rent bikes for the day. A smile by me because an ebike was available. Cycle Journeys now have quite a large operation in Twizel and it seems to be running a very good, helpful business. After some advice on a route to take near Twizel we set off on a cloudy and coolish morning. We took the route used by the A2O trail through to the canals and then hung Read on...
We arrived at Odessa Station early in the morning. We headed over to the Left Luggage Office and dropped our bags off there. I cant remember how much it was, but I presume it was pretty inexpensive. We had a couple of hours to kill before our tour started, so most of us headed over to the McDonalds just across the square. We had to navigate through what felt like an underground maze to get there. Read on...
Sipping a cold drink at the end of a quiet day. Tim and I went for a walk after dinner just to loosen the muscles. Each evening many French people head down to their favourite bar to have a and reflect on the day. I felt like Norm from the Cheers.
Today we are going to Avignon, a city that is known as being the City of the Popes. In the 14th century Pope Clement V and his offsiders fled from Rom Read on...
Up with the lark we left our little parking spot beneath the roman fort and headed back on ourselves towards Carlisle . We had not realised just how far back we had travelled yesterday . So glad we were to find a night parking spot we hadnt given a thought to the fact that we had a 45 minute ride just to get back to Carlisle where we left yesterday .
Our plan today was to drive over the border in Read on...
