We were across the West German border by 10am and it was a good road through some pretty flat Swiss countryside, so with the van now performing a little better again, we reached Zurich by midday. By then, it was a real scorcher so after lunch, we spent most of the afternoon swimming and sunning on the north side of the lake with the swans. After a makeshift dinner, we returned to town for a stroll Read on...
Today, September 21, is the first full day on our journey. A day with sentiment. We left Lynden and the Puget Sound area on a beautiful day. We encountered a lot of traffic that Tom handled very confidently, while Natalie carried enough tenseness to need a chiropractic visit! The smoke around Issaquah area was unpleasant but the higher we climbed the clearer it became. So - we arrived in Ellensbur Read on...
We were on our way a little before 7am, for our last day on the Camino. First, we passed through San Anton, then saw another scene from the Hobbit. After our break, we continued through Lavacolla, passi Read on...
Big walk day. Plenty of elevation gain which is simply walking talk for lots of ups and downs. And about 20km again which when matched with the ups and downs is about right. Leaving at 9:00 sees us arrive just after 4:00 which is good. Not easy but good. The ups and downs correspond with streams or rivers meeting the sea so its all understandable and all geographically correct but it doesnt make t Read on...
Last snorkel – perhaps – at the n.e. end of the island, getting in at the Infinity pool as usual. It was nice and clear and we were the only people out there so early. Saw a big green moray eel, but he out to be photographed. We did see (photo) a couple riding those powered fin boards, or whatever they are called. Amazing balance!
We had to check out by 10 am, which was tight. So tight that w Read on...
Away, away, from man and towns, To the wild wood and the downs, - To the silent wilderness, Where the soul need not repress its music. – Percy Bysshe Shelley
Day 6 of this journey though Kruger puts the trip at roughly the half way mark, and instinctively, thoughts gravitate to wondering just how many days are left before this fascinating adventure ends. The primary purpose of visiting Kruger Read on...
After Salerno, we continued on for two nights in Matera. But first we had to make a stop on the way at the amazing medieval village of Castelmezzano in Basilicata. Its about an hour from Matera, the sun came out and the pastel houses against the stark, eroded mountains in the background was an unforgettable sight. In season, there is a zipline called the flight of the angels between this village a Read on...
