We arrived Friday at the family home of our friend to stay for a couple of days. A really break after 7 straight days of riding, between 60 and 80 km a day!
The first few days we rode through rolling farm country, often passing through villages with old stone houses. We spent a night in Vitr, where the old centre is full of mediaeval houses, surmounted by a truly imposing castle.
We reached th Read on...
Today weve booked a tour to the Willie Creek Pearl Farm which is about 40 kilometres north of Broome, out on the west side of the Dampier Peninsula. Were collected by our guide and bus driver for the morning who introduces herself as Lisa.
Lisa tells us that to be a true Broome local you need to satisfy three criteria, excluding presumably that you need to live here. You need to have a boat in yo Read on...
We arrived in Florence from Pisa about four in the afternoon. First stop was at the Hotel Kraft. It is a vey nice older hotel in a quiet neighborhood. I also very much liked the Italianate stye of the building. The hotel is a bit removed from the historic center of Florence We found it to be about a 12 block walk from Piazza della Repubblica at the edge if the historic center to the hotel. A real Read on...
I read an interesting article this morning about tourist trap restaurants. I think we have all had some experience with such a place. Anytime the chef is more famous than his food, I begin to worry and will not eat there. Places like Wolfgang Puck, Moritmoto, Bobby Flay, Paul Prudhomme, Alain Ducasse. I prefer the places, the authentic recipes. old fashioned style cooking. So, what should the war Read on...
Good weather followed us every day so far, and Day 10 of our Moroccan adventure was no different although on this day the humidity could be keenly felt. An ambitious agenda was planned for our first full day in Marrakesh which is not surprising considering how much there is to see and do here.
As mentioned in my preceding blog, the noise from the heavily congested roundabout traffic circle next t Read on...

Originally built about 1860, it spanned the Monocacy River at the Devilbiss Bridge crossing. An 1889 flood damaged the bridge and the surviving half was moved to cross Fishing Creek in 1891. The bus journey from Durham to Bishop Auckland took about half an hour or so and it was a nice drive through some small towns, villages and the countryside. I loved all the green fields. The bus stops in the marketplace in Bishop Auckland and I got off there as it was near to the art gallery I would be visiting first. I had some time before my allotted visit so I took a bit of a walk around the to Read on...
2020 has not been a great year for travel (!!!). Last weekend I finally managed to get out of my boring city to do some long overdue shopping. On the way home I came through Foxton which, I admit, is a town I tend to drive right through without stopping. But I was on the hunt for Munzees and Foxton has quite a good number of them.
Looking at the windmill, I realised I had never bothered to go int Read on...
Perhaps because of my love of travel, I also love maps. My favorite retail store in Seattle now is a place near Pike Market called Metskers Maps on First Avenue. Not a trip goes by that I do not visit Pike, and Metskers. Over the years, I must have touched every country in the world, in some fashion. I also enjoy looking at a real map, not google maps when I am headed to a new place. But this arti Read on...
